How we check every listing
Nobody pays to be listed. Nobody is ranked. Here is exactly what we look at, so you can judge the list yourself.
What gets a business on the list
- They came up in a Google Maps search for that trade in that town, with a phone number you can call.
- Businesses whose own website names the town are listed first. The rest say plainly that their website does not name it, so you know to ask.
What we check on every listing
Each listing has a "What we checked" box. A tick means we saw it. A blank means we did not, and tells you what to ask for.
- Their website names the townWe link to the page, so you can see it yourself. If it does not, the listing says so.
- The phone number matches their websiteIf we could not match it, the listing says so.
- Memberships they nameShingle-maker badges they claim on their site. We show them, but you should check one yourself. Here is how.
- Registered Texas businessShown only once we have looked them up on the state register, with the date.
- Insurance certificate seenShown only when their insurance agent sent us one. Until then it stays blank.
- Confirmed by the ownerThe owner told us the details are right, with the date.
Where the star rating comes from
The star rating and review count are Google's, not ours. We show the date we read them. We do not copy review text, and we do not write ratings of our own.
What we never do
- Take money to list a business, or to move one up.
- Rank anyone. Owner-confirmed listings come first, then businesses whose website names the town, then the rest, each A to Z.
- Say "licensed". Texas does not license roofers. What to ask for instead.
- Show stock photos as if they were a company's own jobs.
- Sell your details.
When a listing changes
- Wrong details get fixed within 24 hours.
- An owner can ask to be removed, and it happens the same day.
- Every listing shows the date we last checked it.
